Applied Ethics: What it is and Why it Matters!

Applied Ethics: What it is and Why it Matters!

The Free Society International Workshops

Convened by Prof. Colin Tyler and Dr Christopher Fear

It was inspiring to have been part of this thought provoking and razorsharp interdisciplinary brainstorming thought exchange and the academic paper presentations of the finest minds, each bringing forth old and new positions with the subjects even jumping to life out of the paper. Applied Ethics - they do matter, as they stand for living values and virtues and for action to combat imposed silencing, and standing up for the truth can at times mean the difference between life and death! Protesting as a duty, free speech as a right, the shelter and shield of academic tradition and methodology, which help us to validate truth, as it presents itself - these are the finely tuned instruments of principles and disciplines that offer their lives to a free society. A society that is based on ethics, good will to work together for the greater good, each in their capacity and to their ability. Too much nastiness is present already in the underlying wars of a few powerlusting entities that manipulate not just social media in all ways. Where there is no real dialogue and exchange possible, silence in the face of aggression and enforced polarisation seems to be the better choice of values and a virtue, as there are many ways we can stand up for the truth and for freedom by using our gifts and skillsets selflessly in the service of the greater good. We all have to take up our responsibility, and, yes, whenever needed have to leave our comfortzone in order to defend freedom of thought, the vulnerable in society and to call out those, who abuse power across every border! # #socialmedia #appliedethics #antifascism #freedom #academicfreedom #freedomofspeech #politicaldebate #polarization Applied Ethics: What is it and Why it Matters
